At Anchor Academy we do not believe in a one size fits all curriculum for our students. Our goal is to utilize the state standards as a guardrail for content, and then embed Montessori and Biblical teachings into daily instruction.
For grades PreK through eighth we will teach the content areas of Math, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. The Tennessee state standards for each of these for subject areas are linked by grade level below. For grades nine through twelve we will follow the requirements for the Tennessee High School diploma.
- English Language Arts
- Math
- Science
- Social Studies
In addition to using the TN state standards as a guardrail for our instruction we will also embed the Montessori philosophy into our daily classroom structure.
The link below from the American Montessori Society explains the Montessori model in detail, and why it is so beneficial for student learning.

Further supporting individualized student learning Anchor Academy is a proponent of looped, multi grade classrooms. This type of learning environment allows students to move ahead when they are ready instead of keeping a student in a box based on grade level. The plan for our grade level breakdown is below.
- PreK – 1st grade
- 2nd grade – 3rd grade
- 4th grade – 5th grade
- 6th grade – 8th grade
- 9th grade – 12th grade
Because the TN state standards are cyclical in nature Anchor Academy teachers will have the ability to teach multi grade classes and meet students exactly where they are in the learning process. This is a huge benefit for students as they learn the content that is expected of them here in the state of Tennessee, while also having their individual learning styles met.
In addition to our core content classes Anchor Academy also plans to offer extracurricular classes to further improve our student’s ability to connect and succeed after elementary and middle school. Although we believe that the four core subject areas are important, we also see a vital need for students to explore the Arts, enrich their Biblical education, and build a strong foundation of understanding in STEAM. The future of our society is founded on technology and engineering, and we want the students of Anchor Academy to enter high school more than prepared for their post-secondary opportunities.
