FAQ

Some of our most asked questions. If you have any other questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at anchoracademytn@gmail.com

What is Anchor Academy?

We are a 2 day a week OR 4 day a week homeschool tutorial located in the heart of Lebanon.

Where are you located?

We are located at 314 W Baddour Pkwy in Lebanon, Tennessee.

What grade levels are you offering?

Grade Levels serviced are Pre K 4 – 10th grade.

Are three year olds allowed to enroll in PreK?

Yes! The cut off date for our three year old friends to turn four is August 31st, 2024.

Is there at home learning?

Friday is a “work from home” day for both part time and full time students.

What Curriculum do you use?

We do not believe there is a one size fits all curriculum that embodies the TN State Standards while simultaneously building a biblical education. For that reason, we believe our team of certified educators will be able to create lessons and materials to include each of those needs. We will integrate many facets of Montessori philosophy especially in the younger/primary grade levels with hands-on learning, independence, and freedom of movement. We intend to make learning fun, meaningful, and interesting.

What does it cost?

There are two learning options available. See our tuition page for more information on the cost of each option, extracurriculars, and discounts

Is there before and after school care?

Before care will be offered from 7:45-8:45 am

$50per week- $450/quarterly

We suggest anyone interested in Aftercare reach out to The Hangout Spot to check for availability within their after school care program. Their website is here. The Hangout Spot is also a great option for parents for a Friday program, summer learning camp, and a place for students to attend during school breaks!

What makes this different from other homeschool options?

At Anchor Academy we believe strongly in teaching the whole child. As a result of this we will embed both Biblical beliefs and Montessori philosophies into our students’ educational process.

We also commit to our families to hire teachers with a degree in education at Anchor Academy. It is important to us that highly qualified teachers who are knowledgeable in the field of education educate the students at Anchor.

In addition to offering a full time enrollment option for Mondays – Thursdays from 9:00 am – 2:45 pm we also offer a part time enrollment option for parents who are looking for two days a week for away from home learning for their students.

At Anchor we believe strongly in meeting each student where he/she is in their learning. We do not believe in a “one size fits all” approach to education, and we hold firmly to the fact that children need to be allowed to be children for as long as possible. With our unique multi grade approach to classroom learning, combined with small class sizes, and low teacher to student ratios we are hopeful that we can provide an educational experience for each child that is rewarding and beneficial to their social and emotional well being, as well as their academic progress.

Am I required to register my child under an umbrella homeschool program?

No, you are not required to register your child under an umbrella homeschool program. Anchor Academy will take care of attendance and grades for each quarter for your child. As the parent it is up to you whether you upload that information with the state of Tennessee for first through eighth grade, or you enroll in an umbrella homeschool program to do that for you. However, we do strongly recommend enrolling in an umbrella school for the ease it offers parents.

Once a student enters the ninth grade we do require an umbrella home school to ensure that all requirements of the Tennessee diploma project are being met.

Our PreK students are not required to upload grades and attendance with the state of Tennessee as this is not required in our state.

What subjects are you teaching?

We will teach Math, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies from 9:15 am – 1:15 pm, Mondays – Thursdays. We will use the Tennessee State Standards as a guardrail for our curriculum, but embed Montessori philosophies throughout our instruction. Fridays are a work from home day, however parents will not be required to plan or write their own curriculum for Fridays. Anchor Academy is willing to send home optional work for each Friday for students to complete.

What are the extracurricular classes you offer?

This changes by quarter. Below are examples of extra curriculars that will be offered –

Bible, Physical Education, Health and Wellness, Music Theory, Culinary Arts, STEM, and Visual Arts.

Can my child play sports for their zoned school while attending Anchor?

Yes! Students are allowed to participate in extracurricular athletic activities at their zoned schools when they are enrolled at Anchor. And the best part is we will help you get that set up with your zoned school for your student!

What school district calendar will you follow?

We loosely follow the Lebanon Special School District calendar, however we recommend looking at our calendar specifically as there are dates that are different.

How will the grade levels be grouped together at Anchor?

Due to the Montessori philosophy that will be embedded throughout our curriculum we will loop our students. The grade level breakdown for the 2023 – 2024 school year is below –

  • PreK – 1st grade
  • 2nd grade – 3rd grade
  • 4th grade – 5th grade
  • 6th grade – 8th grade
  • 9th grade – 12th grade

This grade level break down is changing slightly for the 2024 – 2025 school year, and moving forward. We will better adjust the classes to meet the students where they are developmentally, and to better align with the Montessori style of education. You can reach out to the directors of Anchor Academy for more information regarding changes for next school year. There will be a teacher, and an assistant for each grade band group, and our class sizes will remain at fifteen maximum. This will allow us to teach students where they are in their individual learning.
